WHAT IS SQUAWKFEST?
The inaugural clarinet day at IUP took place on March 7, 2017 and starting in Spring 2022, the event is open to both saxophonists and clarinetists! The mission statement for Squawkfest: We single reed enthusiasts gather together to celebrate our instruments and to make music as a large ensemble. Participants have a change to visit IUP and to explore what the music program has to offer, if they are prospective students. We provide opportunities for IUP students and guests to learn more about the clarinet and saxophone and musicianship. Activities include a masterclass for participating guests and guest artist and faculty performances. If you are a high school student and you are interested in auditioning to be a music major or minor at IUP, you may audition on this day. Contact Dr. Rosemary Engelstad if you are looking to audition or if you have any questions about the clarinet studio at IUP.
NEW: Scholarship Competition for incoming freshmen at IUP
Saxophone and Clarinet students who are seniors in high school and are committed to attending IUP in the Fall of 2022 in pursuit of a music degree are welcome to sign up for our scholarship competition. Winners (one saxophonist and one clarinetist) are given the opportunity to perform on the faculty recital and will receive a scholarship to be disbursed to their account at IUP for the Fall 2022 semester.
